bout a month ago, Mark Reuss, North American President of General Motors, made the official announcement that Cadillac’s lineup is growing by two new vehicles. These growing will start with the XTS full-size sedan, which will come in the spring of 2012 and the ATS compact sedan in the summer. At that time, along with this announcement, GM also released a teaser image previewing the new ATS. Well, today now we can present you the latest and most revealing spy photos of Cadillacs new 3-series competitor.

The ATS is likely to come onto the market as a 2013 model and it will be produced at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan, creating some 600 jobs in the process. This model will go up against Germany’s finest including the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class as well as the Lexus IS range.

In terms of styling, the latest spy shots reveals the strong influences from the CTS. Upright head and tail lights appear at their respective ends and dual exhaust tips can be seen in the rear bumper.

As for the technical part, no official details were published, but expect the new model to come fitted with GM’s brand new ‘Alpha’ platform, a compact rear-wheel drive design that’s expected to be used for the next-generation CTS and even the Chevrolet Camaro.

Rumor say that the regular ATS line will feature two engine options: a 3.6-liter V-6 with 330 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque on tap, as well as a 2.0-liter turbocharged mill with 270 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque on tap. The same rumor say that these engines will transfer the power to the wheels through a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic.

looks like we will be getting an exact copy of the Cadillac CTS. I don't see any difference other than the smaller size. This is a good and bad thing. Good... we get the legendary CTS Design, bad....it's not a unique, one off design that is Cadillac ATS specific.

Those brakes look seriousss, i wonder how big the rotors are and if the calipers are 2 pot calipers.

Cadillacs vehicles do look similar. The ATS shows many similarities to the CTS. Just as the M3 shows similarities to he M5. Not really a bad thing. Lets just hope the ATS performs well. Wonder what the curb weight on it is. The 2.0L turbo is well powered. I hope the car is light.

as a 2.0L turbo, cadillac will aim for top fuel economy numbers with this and it's a base model engine. so maybe, just maybe it will have things like manual seats (no powered seats) that are fabric, and other things along the same lines to even out the power to weight ratio.

expecting the 2.0L turbo to be a torquie motor with great off the line power, but not so much for peak power.
