Heading to dealerships later this summer, the 2013 ATS will be the next line up of Cadillac vehicles and the gateway car for the brand. While the sedan’s primary goal will be to supply a whole new kind of entry-level luxury, it will be more than just premium leather and some wood. Multiple trim levels and options will be available while a few bits will be pulled straight from the track proven V-Series. When it hits the streets, the ATS will be able to stop and corner with the best of its segment.

Two key components will contribute to the ATS’s handling abilities. Optional equipment such as Brembo supplied brakes and GM’s Magnetic Ride Control damper system will be offered in packages. When fitted, the big Brembos will have the ability to stop the segment light ATS from 60 mph in 129 feet. Heavy duty pads and floating calipers combine with 12.6 inch vented rotors so that stops should be always free of fade. “With the Cadillac ATS, we see a perfect example of how Brembo’s advanced technology can be used to substantially improve the safety of what is already a great performance luxury sedan,” said Dan Sandberg, president and CEO of Brembo North America.

Heavy and confident stops won’t be the only key to the ATS’s track like poise. When equipped with the optional FE3 Sport Suspension package, GM’s Magnetic Ride Control will be fitted as a class-exclusive technology. Similar to the system found on the record-breaking Corvette, the suspension uses special dampers filled with magneto-rheological fluid that is susceptible to magnetic charges. With a flip of a switch, the ATS can stiffen or soften its suspension so it can carve corners and cruise in comfort within the same day.
