So this is basically a novelty feature for the pure fun of it. It isn't like it really has a purpose other than making the driver feel cool when he does it. In fact it will likely end up doing bad things to your vehicle?

no its not a novelty feature, No-Lift-Shift is a functional piece of technology, it does have a purpose, you can shift without lifting the throttle. It won't do bad things to your vehicle, it will do bad things to your fuel economy...

and besides if the driver isn't enjoying their vehicle whats the point in buying it?

Yup, can't beat that unless you want a drivers car, in that case a manual is the way to go. No-lift = Fastest

I wonder if No-Lift will help the ATS downshift as well? They made it clear that you can't No-Lift the throttle while downshifting, which makes more than enough sense but I wonder if the system will help you rev match to keep things quick and smooth?

the no lift shift is a manual.

the computer just somehow keeps the revs from overshooting so you can shift without lifting your foot off the gas.

its really no different than powershifting, just with a factory rev limiter. No lifting the accelerator, stab the clutch quick and shift, keeps the car in boost (currently on Camaro ZL1 and CTS-V) The thing about powershifting is you need to be QUICK, No-Lift-Shift allows you a margin of error and lets even average drivers powershift.

The difference between No-Lift and Powershifting is in a No-Lift equipped car the revs will hover in the same spot where you engage the clutch. When powershifting the revs will continue to climb even as you engage the clutch. So say you go to crack second at 6,000 revs, clutch in, No-Lift keeps 6,000 revs. Powershifting you go to crack second at the same 6 grand they will continue to 7000, 8000, redline... unless you're quick enough

Is this a feature that can come in the ATS-V?
